My reasons for creating this blog

I majored in creative writing during college. My favorite professor was a devoted scholar hugely inspired by the writing workshop classroom and Peter Elbow.
Throughout my last fifteen years of teaching writing in numerous locations, I have found Peter Elbow's teaching to be indispensable to rookie or experienced writing instructors in settings as diverse as prisons, jails, high schools, alternative schools, and colleges.
I have included a quote from Peter Elbow below, and encourage my readers to share their thoughts or writing under comments. I will respond to all comments.

Lawyer as Writer
Notes from Peter Elbow, Writing Without Teachers
(New York: Oxford University Press, 1973)

Taking Charge: "Many people are now trying to become less helpless, both personally and politically: trying to claim more control over their own lives. One of the ways people most lack control over their own lives is through lacking control over words. Especially written words." (vii). How do we gain control over words? "[I]It requires working hard and finding others to work with you." (vii)
